Profile
Toneelgroep Oostpool [‘East Pole’] from Arnhem is one of the eight major theatre companies in the Netherlands and thus belongs tot the so-called ‘basic infrastructure’ of Dutch theatre. The company plays in large proscenium arch theatres, studio-type theatres and on location and creates four to six new productions every year.
Toneelgroep Oostpool has its own house, Huis Oostpool, a 220 seat studio theatre in Arnhem. The company has two resident directors, Marcus Azzini and Erik Whien, who work under the artistic director, Rob Klinkenberg. The business director is Ruud van Meijel. There’s a fixed company of young actors, which is complemented when necessary with regular guest-actors. Toneelgroep Oostpool works from a national and even international point of view, but sees Arnhem and the east of the Netherlands as its home base. We regularly work together with the ArtEZ Drama Academy and Generale Oost, a breeding ground for young theatre artists. We also run an extensive educational programme.
Toneelgroep Oostpool is a lively and talented company of young theatre artists who work as personally as possible, but who keep the bigger picture in mind, fully conscious of the world we live in. The company is powered by acting.
Toneelgroep Oostpool treasures its audience, and for each performance, it takes the special, communal relationship between spectator and actor as a starting point. The quality of their joint experience is paramount.
